The Baptist Way

We could talk about this all day but we thought we'd just make a video to show you.

A Bit More About The Baptist Way.

  • Each person should interpret the Bible for themselves

  • Each local church community has autonomy.

  • Everyone has direct access to God -no need for priests or elders. This is the priesthood of all believers.

  • Salvation is achieved solely through faith in Jesus Christ.

  • Everyone is welcome at Blackhill where full voting membership is restricted to believers baptised by full immersion.

  • Most Baptist communities accept that the invitation to enter God's kingdom applies to every human being, with faith in Jesus Christ being the actual key to achieve entrance - as revealed to Simon Peter.

  • Baptism and Communion are generally considered to be ordnances - carried out because Jesus asks for them.

  • Baptism in water does not bestow spiritual cleansing or salvation but is a public statement of faith in Jesus Christ, the outer sign of an inner truth.

  • There is no “Baptist” teaching regarding the mystery of communion (does the bread and wine transform into the actual flesh and blood of the saviour?) with each individual having freedom of conscience – a private matter. However, Communion must never be treated lightly.

  • Invitation and rejection are the prerogatives of God alone. The church does not get to choose, only to welcome.

The Baptist Union Declaration of Principle

Part One

Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is God in the flesh and he is the only authority in all matters of Christian faith and practise as revealed in The Bible, and that each church has liberty, guided by The Holy Spirit, to interpret and administer His laws (freedom of conscience).

Part Two

Christian baptism is the full immersion in water of those who understand their need to express a genuine sorrow and regret to God for their previous thoughts and actions that were opposed to Him, and who hold a belief that Jesus died for them out of His love for them, was buried, but rose again on the third day. Christian baptism represents cleansing and a fresh start.

Part Three

That it is the duty of every disciple to declare to the whole world by their actions and their words the Good News of the availability to all of eternal life and joy as freely offered by God,  through faith in Jesus as Lord and Saviour.
